Men's Lax Shuts Down AMCATS, 22-0

DUDLEY, Mass. -  The Nichols College men's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 22-0 victory over Anna Maria College Thursday evening. The win marked the largest for the Bison since 1967 when Nichols posted a 24-1 victory at Plymouth State. Sophomore attacker Brian Donnelly (Weymouth, Mass.) led seven Bison in double-digit points with 10 on six goals and four assists. Classmate Ryan Pacific (Danbury, Conn.) added four goals and a pair of assists, while senior attackman Peter Cramer (Hanover, Mass.) also tallied four scores to go with an assist.

Brian Gattie (Plainfield, N.H.) recorded five points on a pair of goals and three assists, while Garrett Hill (Braintree, Mass.) chipped in with four points on a goal and three assists. Tyler Kennedy (Cohasset, Mass.) and Devan Maher (Leominster, Mass.) each added two goals.

Nichols scored seven first-quarter goals and built its lead to 16-0 by halftime before adding six more goals in the third quarter. The Bison held a 40-15 lead in shots and a 47-26 groundball advantage. Ryan Jacobson (Worcester, Mass.) picked up a game-high 15 groundballs for the Bison.

Led by 14 of 19 faceoff wins by Jeff Powers (Easton, Mass.), Nichols won 20 of 26 draws on the night; Michael Yurko (Salem, Mass.) was victorious in six of six faceoff attempts.

Austin Healy (Westford, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season with seven saves before giving way to Matt Cecil (Odenton, Md.), who stopped three shots in the final 30 minutes. Anna Maria netminder Joshua Karamanakis (Southbridge, Mass.) shouldered the loss with eight saves.

The game marked the first in program history for the AMCATS, who added lacrosse as a varsity sport this season. Mike Saulnier won four of seven faceoffs in his collegiate debut, while Michael Powell and Jason McGuire each picked up five groundballs.

Nichols is idle until a 4 p.m. The Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Salve Regina on Tuesday, March 24.Anna Maria plays Husson in Bangor, Maine, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
