Men's Hockey Powers Past Stonehill, 8-6

FOXBORO, Mass. (Nov. 24) – Senior forward Eric Cremer (Chelsea, Mich.) scored the game-winning goal with 1:42 remaining to lift the Nichols College men's ice hockey team to an 8-6 non-conference victory at Stonehill Tuesday evening. Junior forward Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) had a hand in six of Nichols' goals, tying the program's single-game record with six assists.

First year forward Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis.) potted four goals and three assists, including a pair of power play markers to lead Nichols to a .667 conversion clip with the man advantage (4-for-6). Kohn recorded a hat trick in the opening frame and added an empty-netter with one second in the game.

Andrew Letellier (Saco, Maine) picked up his first points of the season with a pair of goals and two assists, recording all but one assist with the man advantage. His final point on the night came on Cremer's game-winner.

Nichols led, 5-2, after the opening frame on a 17-2 shot advantage, but surrendered a pair of goals before the midway point of the second period to let the Skyhawks back into it for a slim 5-4 lead at the end of two.

After Stonehill's third goal of the game, Bison starting netminder Ryan Casey (Pelham, N.H.) bowed out to Jacob Rinn (Warwick, R.I.), who saw his first game action of the season tonight. Rinn stopped seven of eight shots in the middle frame and then seven of nine in the final as the Bison outshot their hosts, 16-9, in the third period.

Andrew Ella (Schomberg, Ontario) edged the Bison ahead to a 4-6 lead at 4:38 of the third, but George DeMello netted his third of the night five minutes later to bring the Skyhawks within one again. A boarding call on Nichols afforded Stonehill its seventh power play opportunity of the night just past the midway mark, and Matt Doherty converted to knot the game at 12:19 before Cremer locked in the game-winner with less than two minutes to play.

Rinn finished with 14 saves over the final two periods, while Casey stopped five shots; both allowed three goals. Stonehill starter Derek Chapdelaine made 10 saves while allowing four goals in the opening 11 minutes, while Mark Manna made 19 over the remainder of the game and took the loss.

Nichols is back in action at the Skidmore Invitational this weekend. The Bison will face the host Thoroughbreds Saturday at 2 p.m.
