Roger Williams Rallies Past Men's Soccer, 3-1

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. (Oct. 6) – Three unanswered goals by the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team gave the Hawks a 3-1 victory over Nichols College Tuesday afternoon, extending their winning streak to seven straight.

Daniel Smith (Verona, N.J.) got things started for the Bison halfway through the first period, firing a hard shot from the left side behind the box. Hawk goalie Peter Plate was able to get a hand on the shot, but could not keep it from finding the back of the net, giving Nichols a 1-0 advantage at the 26:29 mark. The goal was the first allowed by the Hawk defense in seven games, spanning over 700 minutes of game time.

Nichols' 1-0 lead held up throughout the remainder of the half, until 1:42 into the second period, Liam Isleib knotted the game at one apiece with a goal from the center of the box. Roger Williams would take the lead at 60:49 when Isleib put up a shot at Nichols' goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.). In making the save, the ball rolled away to the right of the keeper. A Bison defender jumped into the goal when he saw Bradley Macdonald coming after the free ball, but could not stop Macdonald from rebounding in the deflection.

Two minutes later, the Hawks would add their third goal of the game. Josh Boyce fired a shot at Hamilton off of a cross by Chris Guerrini. Similar to RWU's previous goal, Isleib took advantage of the free ball on the deflected save and earned his second goal of the game.

Plate earned the win for Roger Williams, making six saves in the game while his counterpart Hamilton stopped eight balls in the loss.

Roger Williams (10-3-0, 6-1-0 TCCC) will square off against Endicott College this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at home, while Nichols (7-4-0, 3-4-0 TCCC) will be competing Lesley College in Dudley, Mass. on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
