DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 10) – The Nichols College women's tennis team clinched a share of the The Commonwealth Coast Conference regular season title Saturday with a 9-0 victory over visiting Gordon College at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. Nichols closes out the regular season with a 14-1 overall record and a 10-1 mark in TCCC matches, tying for first with Colby-Sawyer, which holds the tiebreak over the Bison. Gordon falls to 5-8 overall and 5-6 in conference play and in seventh place in the league. The two teams will meet again in the quarterfinal round, hosted by Nichols on Tuesday, October 13, at 2:00 p.m.
Nichols posted 8-1 wins at first and third doubles, but Kallie Garrett and Hannah Osgood took Alexandra Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) and Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.) to a closer match at 8-6.
The Bison made quick work of the first and second singles matchups and Cifone rallied from a close 7-5 first set to post a 6-2 second set victory over Garrett.
Kelsey Urbanetti (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Monica Bassi (Branford, Conn.) posted wins at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively, with Bassi playing in her final match on senior day. Nichols also recognized Molly McGuire (E. Sandwich, Mass.), the program's all-time singles wins leader (50), on senior day.
