Box Score WESTON, Mass. (Oct. 1) — The Nichols College women's soccer team won its first The Commonwealth Coast Conference game Thursday in dramatic fashion, handing Regis an 8-0 defeat. Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.) scored four goals and Kaitlyn DiBuono (Auburn, Mass.) recorded four assists in the game. Nichols improves to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the TCCC. Regis falls to 1-7-1 and 0-4 in the TCCC.
Within five minutes of the opening whistle, and being assisted by DiBuono, Abro would put in her first shot of the night into the Regis College net. Abro, playing the middle forward, easily made her way past the Regis defense. She put together 12 total shots against Regis keeper Bethany Frye, and scored a hat trick in the first period alone. Her fourth goal would come in the 14th minute of the second half.
DiBuono would also add her name to the list of three other Bison to score, tallying her first goal of the night at 8:47.
Junior captain Holly Ventura (Hudson, Mass.) scored two goals in the game, her first coming in the 19th minute off a pass from Dibuono. She would find the back of the net once more in the first half, scoring on an assist from Abro in the 34th minute.
Entering the half Nichols had taken 19 shots to Regis' two. The two shots on net would come from Regis' Janelle Welsh.
Nichols opened with another quick score in the second half as it did in the first period. Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) made herself the fourth Bison to score with an unassisted shot that sailed over the fingertips of Frye.
Frye faced a total of 30 shots, in comparison Nichols' keepers Andrea D'Antuono (West Greenwich, R.I.) and Maureen Lynch (Holbrook, Mass.) had two and one saves respectively.
Nichols will travel to Endicott College for a 4 p.m. TCCC game Saturday.
