Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team slipped past Nichols, 2-1, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup Tuesday afternoon. Mandy Hibbard struck with the game-winner for the Colonels (7-2-1, 4-1-0 TCCC) in the 86th minute as the rain poured down.
Curry held a 13-5 shot advantage in the first half, but Nichols goalkeeper Sara Levesque (Ludlow, Mass.) kept the Colonels at bay until the 36th minute when Suzanne Jensen sent a shot in from the left side of the box that deflected off a Bison defender's toe and sailed into the upper right of the net.
Nichols (6-4-0, 1-3-0 TCCC) had several quality chances in the frame, including a direct kick from first-year back Stephanie Halvatzes (Merrimack, N.H.) that cruised just above the crossbar in the 41st minute.
The Bison held control for most of the second half, and equalized the score when Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) stole the ball out in front of the Colonels' net and cut through a pair of defenders before placing her shot in the lower left of the net in the 77th minute as the rain started. The goal marked Shaughnessy's team-leading fifth of the season.
Under 10 minutes later, however, Hibbard found a short cross from Brooke DeLuca and shot from the outer left corner of the box from within a group of players. The tally marked the third on the season for the junior.
Levesque finished with nine saves, while Julia Tinetti made six.
Nichols is back in action Saturday when the Bison host Roger Williams in a 3 p.m. homecoming game. Curry hosts University of New England Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
