Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College men's soccer team ended a four-game winless streak with a 5-0 victory over visiting Regis College Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field. The Bison scored two goals in the first half and added three in the second, receiving goals from five different players. Tim Mann (Marshfield Mass.) and Joseph Neves (Norwood, Mass.) netted their first goals of the season in the win.
David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.) put Nichols on the board in the 10th minute with his team-leading sixth goal of the season. The first-year midfielder split three defenders before his shot from the middle glanced off Regis goalkeeper Andrew LaMacchia's (Lynn, Mass.) fingertips and into the upper right corner of the net.
Mann gave the Bison a two-goal cushion in the 16th minute after receiving a long pass up from Matt Nash (West Springfield, Mass.). Mann drove through a pair of defenders and placed his low shot past LaMacchia for his first tally of the season.
Aaron Kelly (Dover Plains, N.Y.) converted a pass from Matt Soderberg (Douglas, Mass.) for his second goal of the year in the 73rd minute before Daniel Smith (Verona, N.J.) collected his own rebound after firing at LaMacchia from point-blank range two minutes later. The netminder lost grip of the ball and Smith tapped in his own rebound for a 4-0 advantage.
Neves capped the scoring in the 87th minute with his first career tally, fed from Stephen Dudley (Franklin, Mass.).
First-year goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) made a save in the first half before giving way to classmate Joseph Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.). LaMacchia made 17 saves for Regis.
Nichols is back in action on Wednesday, October 1, in a 4 p.m. game against Curry. Regis travels to Salve Regina on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. TCCC game.
