NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Nichols College men's soccer team fell to Albertus Magnus, 4-2, Thursday afternoon. David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.) and Matthew Nash (West Springfield, Mass.) led the Bison with a goal each.
Albertus Magnus got on the board in the 16th minute on JJ Torres' first goal of the game off a corner kick by Kyle Kelly. Jamal Howard put the Falcons up 2-0 in the 36th minute with a left foot finish goal, a lead Albertus Magnus carried into the half.
Johnson headed in a throw-in from first-year classmate Daniel Smith (Verona, N.J.) in the 58th minute to cut the Falcons' lead to 2-1, but Torres sent in a shot off the post 10 minutes later to reclaim the two-goal lead.
Nash scored on a penalty kick in the 87th minute to bring the Bison back within one at 3-2, but a red card with three seconds remaining resulted in an Owen O'Kane penalty kick goal for Albertus Magnus.
Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, Mass.) made seven saves for the Bison, while Ryan Mihawak stopped five for the Falcons.
Albertus Magnus held a 21-12 shot advantage, but maintained a mere 11-7 lead in shots on net.
Nichols (3-4-1, 0-2-1 TCCC) returns to conference action Saturday in a 5 p.m. game against Regis at Vendetti Field.
