Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. – Western New England College junior Justin Martins scored in the 95th minute to lift the Golden Bears to a 2-1 win over Nichols College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon. The win extends Western New England's unbeaten streak to seven games, as the Golden Bears (5-1-2, 2-0-1 TCCC) remain unbeaten in TCCC play. Nichols draws even at 3-3-1 and falls to 0-2-1 in conference games.

Western New England junior Jason Sabia shot from the outer left of the box, but his shot was saved by Nichols keeper Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, Mass.), who came out of the net to play the ball. The ball slipped out of the junior's hands as he fell to the ground and dribbled over him, finding Martins' feet as the forward streaked up the right side of the field. Martins tapped the ball in the net for his second goal of the season and the win.

The Golden Bears got on the board in the 24th minute when Dale Totman took a tipped back pass from Martins in the box and placed it just inside the left post.

Nichols played a man down from the 42nd minute on, but managed to knot the game in the 76th minute on Giulian Correia's (Lakeville, Mass.) first goal of the season. David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.) sent a bicycle shot toward the net, but it careened off the post toward Western New England goalkeeper Dan Ruscigno. The netminder couldn't get ahold of it before Correia planted it in the back of the net.

Johnson finished with five saves in his first appearance of the season. Ruscigno made three in the win.

Western New England held a 16-12 advantage in shots and a 10-6 lead in corner kicks.

Nichols is back in action in a 4 p.m. Thursday game at Albertus Magnus. Western New England hosts Eastern Nazarene Saturday in an 11 a.m. TCCC game.
