Women's Tennis Defeats Regis, 7-2

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team defeated Regis in a TCCC match Saturday afternoon, 7-2. The Bison were led by first-year player Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.), who swept at No. 3 singles and also picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles with senior Jess Porter (Melrose, Mass.).

Nichols (5-1, 2-1 TCCC) held a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Emily Levine (Providence, R.I.) and Brittany Pope (North Attleboro, Mass.) won by default.

Jessica Jeffery (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Ally Kuchera (Waltham, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-6 win at second doubles over Nichols' Monica Bassi (Branford, Conn.) and Jessica Burdick (Clinton, Mass.).

Regis (0-2, 0-1 TCCC) received its lone singles point in the top slot from sophomore Megan McCarthy (Norfolk, Mass.), who swept Porter, 6-0, 6-0.

The rest was all Nichols as McGuire bested Jeffery at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Maria Balabanova (Moscow, Russia) took a 6-1, 6-0 victory from Kuchera at fourth singles. Kelsey Urbanetti (Glastonbury, Conn.) swept Maryjane Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.) at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0), and Deirdre Watkins (Hubbardston, Mass.) won at sixth singles by default.

Nichols travels to Salve Regina on Sunday for the grass court doubles tournament that was rescheduled from last weekend. Regis hosts Wentworth on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
