WENHAM, Mass. -- The Gordon women's soccer team opened The Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Nichols College Saturday afternoon. The Bison (1-2, 0-1 TCCC) play their home opener Tuesday night at Vendetti Field in a 7 p.m. game against Bay Path.

Led by junior Goalkeeper Abby Ytzen and an active defense, Gordon limited Nichols to four shots on goal. The Scots mounted a number of offensive opportunities in the early going, but were unable to capitalize until the 34th minute when freshman Rachael Bailey scored on an assist from Morgan Craney.

Gordon hung onto their 1-0 lead for most of the game, but the Bison threatened in the 60th minute, forcing Ytzen to make a diving stop from point-blank range. The game was not out of reach until Christin Peters converted with less than three minutes to play with assist from Bailey and senior saptain Amanda Whittet.

Senior netminder Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, Mass.) made five saves in each half, while Ytzen stopped one in the first and three in the final frame.
