Box Score

PAXTON, Mass. – First-year forward Brian Sanz (Framingham, Mass.) collected a career-high six points on two goals and two assists to propel Nichols College to a 4-2 win over Anna Maria Tuesday afternoon at Klingele Field.  With the win, the Bison improve to 9-8-1 overall and 6-6-1 in conference play, securing the seventh seed in The Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs. Nichols will travel to second-seeded Roger Williams (10-4-4, 9-1-3) for an 11 a.m. quarterfinal game on Saturday, November 1.

Sanz got the scoring started in the 23rd minute of action, finding the back of the net off a feed from sophomore Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.) to put the Bison in the lead, 1-0. Nichols scored  again in the 29th minute, getting beautiful ball movement as both Sanz and senior Aaron Kelly (Dover Plains, N.Y.) assisted first-year forward David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.) who extended the Bison's lead to 2-0.

Anna Maria would fight back before the first half came to a close, as freshman Adam Williamson set up junior George Markopolous who beat the Bison goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton (No. Attleboro, Mass.) to cut the lead in half, 2-1.

As they had done in the opening period, the Bison struck first in the second half when Kelly took a perfectly placed pass from Sanz and scored the third Nichols goal. Sanz extended the Bison's lead to three when he scored his second goal of the day off a pass from junior Timothy Mann (Marshfield, Mass.).

The AMCATS added a goal from sophomore Michael Powell before running out of time, as the Bison went on to take a 4-2 victory.

Hamilton finished with four saves in 73 minutes of action before giving way to junior Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, Mass.). Scott Burokas took the loss for the AMCATS with seven saves.
