BEVERLY, Mass. -- The Endicott College women's tennis team improved to 13-1 on Saturday afternoon, downing Nichols College, 8-1, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match. The Gulls improve to 9-1 in TCCC play while Nichols slips to 10-5 overall (6-4 TCCC). Endicott and Nichols now both look ahead to the playoffs as they have wrapped up their regular seasons.
In doubles play, the Gulls were able to take all three of the matches on the day. Endicott's top doubles team of Nicole Breting and Lori Wardner were able to beat Jessica Porter (Melrose, Mass.) and Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.) by a score of 9-7. The rest of the doubles matches followed suit as current TCCC Player and Rookie of the Week Kate Cioffi teamed with Alyson Boehm to beat the Nichols duo of Molly McGuire (East Sandwich, Mass.) and Maria Balabanova (Moscow, Russia), 8-2. The senior tandem of Kate Fiske and Jenna Carme finished off the Bison as they were able to beat Kelsey Urbanetti (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Deirdre Watkins (Hubbardston, Mass.) by a score of 8-3.
The Gulls didn't let down by picking up right where they left off after doubles play. They were able to grab 4 of 5 singles points. Nichols' Balabanova was able to secure the only point for Nichols as she beat Boehm by a score of 6-2, 7-5.
The Bison look forward to the TCCC Playoffs where they have clinched a spot. The first match is Wednesday and the seeding is yet to be determined. The Gulls have also clinched a playoff spot as the #2 seed in the tournament and begin on Wednesday.
