Box Score DUDLEY, Mass.—The Nichols College Men's soccer team lost a close game to the Curry College, 1-0, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference play Wednesday at Vendetti Field. Curry senior Shawn Harrison (Hope Valley, R.I.) scored early in the second half for the Colonels, who improve to 7-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in TCCC games. Nichols drops to 4-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.
Harrison scored early in the second half, after collecting his own rebound off a save by Nichols goalie Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, Mass.), and putting it in. He shot from the left side of the goal box, then again from the right after Johnson deflected the first shot, and put it in the lower right corner.
The game was a defensive battle with few scoring opportunities for either team, but Bison held a 12-7 shot advantage in the contest. Nichols sophomore Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.) missed just wide with a header off a corner kick midway through the first half. First-year player David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.) had a breakaway chance late in the half, but was whistled for a foul when he and Curry's goalie collided.
The Bison pushed the ball in the second half, but could not break through Curry's defense. Junior Kyle Brockway (Lebanon, N.H.) had a chance midway through the second half, but his shot was contested and went wide. This was the first time Nichols has been shut out in 13 games.
Johnson collected six saves in the Bison's loss. Curry's goalie, Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.) saved five for the Colonels in their winning effort.
