Samantha Dewey joins the Nichols College women's basketball program as a graduate assistant coach for the 2026-27 academic year.
Dewey arrives in Dudley following a collegiate playing career that spanned four seasons between the University of Illinois and the University of Richmond. During her final two seasons with the Spiders, she helped Richmond continue its rise as one of the Atlantic 10 Conference's premier programs, contributing to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and an NCAA Tournament First Four appearance.
As a senior in 2025-26, Dewey appeared in all 34 games while making 20 starts, averaging 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest. She connected on 37 three-pointers at a 34.9 percent clip and recorded career highs in points (171), rebounds (95), and assists (36). She posted a career-best 16-point performance against St. Bonaventure and matched her career high with four made three-pointers in victories over Duquesne and Rhode Island.
Following two seasons at Illinois, Dewey transferred to Richmond prior to the 2024-25 campaign. She appeared in 32 games during her first season with the Spiders, shooting 44.6 percent from the field while scoring a career-high 15 points against Morgan State and reaching double figures again with 10 points against William & Mary. She also saw action in both NCAA Tournament games as Richmond advanced to the national tournament.
During her two seasons at Illinois, Dewey earned Academic All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore. She appeared in 17 games with the Fighting Illini, highlighted by a seven-point performance against McNeese State as a freshman and a perfect 2-for-2 shooting effort in a win at Northwestern as a sophomore.
A native of Melrose, Massachusetts, Dewey was one of the top prep players in the state at Brooks School. She was ranked as the No. 2 player in Massachusetts in the Class of 2022 by Prep Girls Hoops, served as a team captain, and helped lead Brooks to the 2020 NEPSAC Class B Championship. Dewey earned NEPSAC Tournament MVP honors after posting 16 points and 15 rebounds in the championship game and was later named ISL All-League, All-NEPSAC Class B, and a Boston Herald Independent School League All-Star.
