David Hodge

David Hodge joined the Sport Management faculty at Nichols College in the summer of 2022 following full-time faculty appointments at Northwood University (Mich.) and Buena Vista University (Iowa).

He has also served as a part-time faculty member at the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to transitioning into higher education, Hodge spent nine years working in collegiate athletics as a cross country and track & field coach, as well as a sports information director, at both the NCAA Division II and Division III levels. During that time, he served five seasons as a head coach and four as an assistant coach, directly mentoring 10 conference champions, 19 all-conference performers, and three NCAA qualifiers while contributing to a conference Coaching Staff of the Year honor.

At Nichols, Hodge teaches a variety of courses within the Sport Management curriculum, including Sport Management Seminar, Sport Law, Sport Event Management, and Sport Marketing & Fan Engagement. He currently serves as Chair of the Sport Management program and previously spent two years as the program’s Assessment and Accreditation Coordinator. His research interests focus on student-athlete motivation, risk management, and collegiate athletics, leading to publications in sport management and sport law journals.

Hodge earned his bachelor's degree in History from Grove City College, his master's degree in Sport Management from Slippery Rock University, and his Ph.D. in Sport Management from Troy University.
