Peter Maneggia, Jr.

Peter Maneggia begins his first season as head women’s and men’s volleyball coach in 2017.

A veteran of more than 15 years of coaching experience, Maneggia most recently served as an assistant coach with the women’s program at Trinity (CT) College as well as the head boys coach at South Windsor High School. He worked with the Bantams on defense and service reception while assisting with recruiting. In three years at South Windsor, the team compiled a record of 49-22 and advanced to two Class M state championships, winning in 2016.

“I appreciate Nichols College giving me the opportunity to continue to grow its women's volleyball program and build the men’s program from the ground up,” said Maneggia. “This is an exciting time to be involved in the sport of volleyball. The women's game had the highest growth of any youth sport last year and the Division III Men’s Volleyball National Champions are just 30 miles away. New England has some of the best men's volleyball in the country and I am excited to be a part of it.”

Maneggia, Jr. spent seven years as a member of the women’s volleyball program at Eastern Connecticut State, first as an assistant (2008-10) and later the head coach (2011-14). His four-year mark as head coach was 70-58 (15-13 conference mark) and included three trips to the Little East Conference (LEC) playoffs. He coached the 2013 LEC Rookie of the Year (Adrianna Mihalek), three LEC First Team selections, and six LEC All-Academic Team picks.

“I anticipated that the task of identifying a quality candidate three weeks before the start of women’s volleyball preseason would be challenging, but I could not be more thrilled to hire Peter Maneggia and welcome him to Nichols as our first men’s and women’s volleyball coach,” said Colvin. “Peter has both successful Division III women’s volleyball coaching experience in New England as well as experience coaching men’s volleyball. In addition, he has an extensive network of high school and club coaches in the region at his disposal. More importantly, Peter brings a well-rounded, holistic philosophy that will fit perfectly into Nichols athletics.”

Maneggia, Jr. – who has also coached collegiate softball at Central Connecticut State (200-04), Saint Joseph (CT) College (2004-05), and ECSU (2007-12) – is currently the co-director of the volleyball club at CT Velocity VBC, INC, where he works with 150 youth volleyball players ages 10-18. He has also worked a pair of USA Volleyball clinics (2013-14) and, most recently, the High Performance Clinic with Olympic Volleyball Staff in Colorado Springs, Colo. (2014).
