Makayla Norton

Makayla Norton joined the Nichols Athletic Division as the head coach of Cross Country and Track and Field programs prior to the 2022-2023 school year.

The 2024-25 season for Norton, was highlighted by 21 Program Records falling in Track & Field side of the year. She saw freshman Gabby McKayle break seven record individually and one member from each team qualify for the New England D-III Regional Championships too. McKayle qualified in the Indoor Season, as well as the 100m and 200m in the Outdoor season. On the men's side, freshman Chad Moffat secured a CNE First Team selections, winning the Javelin at the Conference Championships and competing in the New England D-III Regional Championship as well in Javelin. 

Norton completed her second year on "The Hill" as the head coach. Norton saw the men's track and field team earn five Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-Conference honors this season, including two first team honors in freshman Nolan Charbonneau (110m Hurdles) and sophomore Tyler Sandford (Shot Put). The women's program broke three school records in the outdoor season for the Bison. On The Cross Country side, the men's team won the Travis J. Fuller Invitational this season with senior Domeic Savastano winning the race for the Bison. 

During the 2022 season, Norton coached Shawn Tobin, graduate student, who was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-Conference Team. He set a career-best and school record 25:57.75 in an 8k run at the Keene State Invitational on 10/1. He also posted a time of 28:00.9 at the NCAA Division III East Regional on 11/12.

Norton, a Dudley native, spent time as a sprinter and jumper with the Southern New Hampshire indoor and outdoor track and field teams. While a member of the Penmen, Norton competed in multiple events, including the 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 500m, high jump, long jump, and triple jump.

Following her graduation from Southern New Hampshire, Norton began her coaching career in an assistant role at her alma mater, Shepherd Hill Regional High School, where she conducted daily practices with both the boys' and girls' teams.
