Samuel Martin has been named the next assistant coach of the Nichols men’s hockey program, as announced by Head Coach Alex Gacek in August 2023.
Martin, a 2023 graduate of SUNY Canton, was a member of the men’s hockey and golf teams for the last four years.
During his time at SUNY Canton, Martin recorded 35 points (16 goals, 19 assists) in 53 games. As a senior, Martin led the team in short-handed goals, game-winning goals, and penalty minutes. Due to COVID-19 canceling the 2020-2021 season, Martin went back to play juniors for the Charlotte Rush (USPHL Premier), where he ended up recording 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 7 regular season games. Martin played a critical role in helping the Rush capture the 2020–2021 USPHL National Championship.
After graduation, Martin took an internship working for the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, located in Rochester, NY. Over the last two seasons, Martin has served as a volunteer coach for the Canton High School hockey team, helping with skill development and video breakdown. Sam will be responsible for recruiting coordination, special teams, and skill development for the Bison.
