Trey James begins his third season as a member of the men's basketball coaching staff at Nichols College in 2018-19.

Nichols tied the program-record for wins (25) in 2017-18 and won its second-straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship in Streich’s first season in Dudley. A total of four student-athletes garnered all-conference honors, including CCC First Team picks Marcos Echevarria and DeAnte Bruton. Echevarria was also tabbed CCC Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season.

In his first season in Dudley in 2016-17, the Bison won their first-ever CCC Championship as well as the first NCAA Tournament game in program history. A pair of student-athletes took home major conference awards – Echevarria (Player of the Year) and Bruton (Rookie of the Year).

James is a 2013 graduate of the University of Connecticut, where he received his bachelor's degree in communications while serving as a four-year member of the Huskies men's basketball team. He was responsible for replicating the opposing team's offensive and defensive strategies in practice, as well as filling in for student-athletes on scholarship when needed.

Upon graduation, James took over the freshmen boys coaching reins at Middletown High School and also assists with the varsity program. Last year, he helped them advance to the Connecticut Class L State Championship contest, and the team finished No. 8 in the New Haven Register state poll. James is also a coach for the Connecticut Defenders AAU program, where he helps build and develop the skills of middle school players.
