Marcos Echevarria

Marcos Echevarria ’19 begins his second season as an assistant coach with the Nichols College men’s basketball program in 2020-21.

In his first season on head coach Brandon Linton’s staff, Echevarria helped guide the Bison to their fourth-consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship in 2019-20. Backed by CCC All-Conference performers DeAnte Bruton (First Team), Matt Morrow (Second Team), and Nate Tenaglia (Defensive Player of the Year), the Bison advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years with a 74-72 win at Stevens Institute in the First Round.

The most decorated student-athlete in Nichols College history, Echevarria finished his illustrious career No. 16 all-time in scoring in Division III history (2,519) and third in three-pointers (479). As a senior in 2018-19, he helped the Bison advance to the 'Elite 8' for the first time in program history, averaging 20.3 ppg to go with 3.9 apg and 1.8 spg. The Lynn, Massachusetts native was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) First Team for the third-consecutive season and was a D3hoops.com All-America Second Team selection.

A Jostens Trophy finalist, Echevarria – a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District pick – closed his career at Nichols having banged in a three-pointer in an NCAA-record 105 consecutive games, dating back to his freshman campaign. He is the college's all-time leader in points, games played (112), free throws (512), and steals (223).

Following the 2018-19 season, he was named to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region First Team for the third time in his career (2017, 2018, 2019) and invited to participate in the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Division III College All-Star Game, which took place in March at the Final Four in Fort Wayne, Ind. In that contest, he played 25 minutes and filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, four assists, three points, and one steal for the West in a 104-101 win.
