Vinny Marino

Vinny Marino was been named the 15th Head Coach of the Nichols College Football Team, on November 28, 2023.

During his second season at the helm in 2025, Marino guided the Bison to a 2-8 overall record, including a 2-5 mark in Conference of New England (CNE) play. Despite a challenging campaign, several student-athletes earned regional and national recognition under his leadership. Graduate student Jack Morvan was selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week, while senior Ian Snow was named CNE Offensive Player of the Week and Evan Toth earned CNE Rookie of the Week honors. The Bison also placed nine players on the All-CNE teams, highlighted by First Team selections Morvan (Wide Receiver) and Nick Foynes (Special Teams). Offensively, Nichols led the conference with 3,003 passing yards.

In his first season as head coach in 2024, Marino led Nichols to a 3-7 overall record and secured his first collegiate head coaching victory with a 63-12 triumph over Maine Maritime on Sept. 14. Three Bison earned All-CNE honors, including First Team selections Jack Morvan and Derrick Revolus. The Bison fielded one of the league's most potent offenses, averaging 33.3 points per game - third-best in the conference - and led the CNE in offensive efficiency. Morvan was also named to the New England Football Writers Association All-New England Team.

Prior to becoming head coach, Marino spent two seasons (2022-23) as Nichols' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, transforming the Bison offense into one of the Commonwealth Coast Conference's top units. During his tenure, Nichols tied for the conference lead in total touchdowns and established a school record with 48 touchdowns in a single season. The Bison improved from averaging 12.2 points per game prior to his arrival to 27.5 points per game in 2022 and 35.6 points per game in 2023. In 2023, Nichols ranked 29th nationally among 238 NCAA Division III programs in total offense.

Marino arrived on The Hill after serving as offensive coordinator at Brown University in 2019, where he engineered a dramatic turnaround for the Bears' offense. Brown averaged 30.0 points and 454.5 yards of total offense per game in 2019, a significant improvement from the 14.3 points and 285.5 yards per game posted the previous season. The Bears also more than doubled their rushing production, increasing from 65.1 to 153.4 rushing yards per contest.

Under Marino's direction, quarterback EJ Perry emerged as one of the nation's top offensive players, leading the country in total offense (367.8 yards per game), setting the Ivy League single-season total offense record with 3,678 yards, earning First Team All-Ivy honors, and finishing as a finalist for the Bushnell Cup, awarded to the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year. Four additional offensive players - Jakob Prall, Livingstone Harriott, Emerson Logie, and Chad Broome-Webster - also earned All-Ivy recognition.

Marino spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Bryant University. In his first season, the Bulldogs produced one of the most prolific offensive campaigns in program history, leading the Northeast Conference (NEC) in total offense while setting program records for receptions and receiving yards. Bryant averaged 30.3 points per game in 2017 and established an NEC single-season record for passing yards per game. The offense remained among the conference's elite in 2018, averaging 32.5 points and 411.1 total yards per game, both ranking second in the NEC.

Before Bryant, Marino served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Davidson College in 2016 and spent the previous two seasons at Boston College, where he held roles as recruiting coordinator, assistant director of player personnel, and quality control coach for offense and special teams. He was part of a coaching staff that guided the Eagles to seven wins and a berth in the 2014 New Era Pinstripe Bowl.

Marino also served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgetown University (2012-13) and Columbia University (2006-11). At Georgetown, he helped the Hoyas lead the Patriot League in red-zone scoring and fewest turnovers in 2013. During his six seasons at Columbia, Marino coached five All-Ivy League quarterbacks, including Craig Hormann, who later signed a free-agent contract with the Cleveland Browns. He also recruited All-America tight end Andrew Kennedy and Austin Knowlin, the all-time leading receiver in Columbia football history.

Additional coaching stops for Marino include the University of Connecticut (2002-05), where he served as recruiting coordinator and assistant coach; the University of Rhode Island (2000-01) as running backs and special teams coach; the University of Richmond (1999) coaching wide receivers and quarterbacks; the College of the Holy Cross (1996-98) as offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and running backs/special teams coach; Western Carolina University (1993-95) as a graduate assistant; and Bowdoin College (1992) coaching wide receivers and return specialists.

At UConn, Marino helped lead the Huskies to the 2004 Motor City Bowl championship and was recognized by Rivals.com as one of the Big East's top 10 recruiters. During his tenure at Rhode Island, the Rams posted an 8-3 record and finished the 2001 season ranked No. 19 nationally. At Richmond, he coached future NFL players Muneer Moore, a sixth-round selection of the Denver Broncos, and Dwaune Jones, who signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns.

Marino earned his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Connecticut in 1992 and later received a master's degree in physical education from Western Carolina University in 1996.
