Jerry Snay

Gerald Snay begins his fourth season as outside linebackers coach at Nichols College in 2018.

Nichols opened the 2017 campaign 2-0 for the first time since 2000 and the team finished the season with a pair of All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) performers on defense: Brett McEvoy (First Team) and Jaylen Encarnacion (Second Team). McEvoy – who was also named to the Worcester Area Football Association All-Star Team – graduated as the program’s all-time leader in tackles.

In 2016, Snay coached a pair of New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Conference performers in Matthew McEvilly (LB) and Brett McEvoy (LB). The duo finished 1-2 in the conference in tackles/game. McEvilly was also named Worcester Area co-Defensive Player of the Year and also received the Joe Zabilksi Award as the best defensive player in New England at the Division III level.

In his first season at Nichols in 2016, he coached NEFC First Team selection Brett McEvoy, who led the conference in tackles.

Snay spent the previous nine season as the head coach at South High in Worcester (2003-08; 2012-14). His squad posted a perfect 12-0 season and won the Central Mass IIIA Super Bowl in 2006. He has also served as the running backs coach at Worcester Academy.

From 2007-08, Snay was the offensive coordinator for the New England Surge, a professional indoor football team in the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL), posting a two-year mark of 19-9. During his first season, the Surge recorded a 10-5 mark and appeared in the conference championship game, led by three All-CIFL First Team players. The following season, the Surge went 8-4 and earned their second-straight trip to the playoffs.

At the collegiate level, Snay spent three years as the offensive line coach at Worcester State (2000-02). During that span, the Lancers were New England Football Conference (NEFC) co-Champions in 2002, runners-up for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship, and ECAC Champions in 2001. Snay has also worked at nearby Becker College as the O-line coach.

Snay played collegiately at UMass Amherst from 1987-90 after transferring from UNH. Following his collegiate playing days, Snay played professionally for the Granite State Warriors and Marlboro Shamrocks from 1993-2005. He was a member of seven National Championships between the AFA and USFA. He appeared in numerous All-Star games, including the Team USA National All-Stars in Orlando, Fla., and the NMFL North/South All-Star Game.

Snay was a member of the 1985 Super Bowl Championship team from St. John’s Shrewsbury, coached by Tony Wood. He has taught in the Worcester Public School system since 2000 and currently teaches at Worcester Tech, where he’s been the head indoor and outdoor track & field coach since 2010.
Snay resides in Shrewsbury with his wife, Susan; daughter, Corrin; and sons, Jay and Colin.
