Janet Newman joined the Nichols College Division of Athletics during the 2022-2023 school year as the first-ever full-time Director of Academic Services.
Newman was elevated to an Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Success for the 2025-26 season.
Newman has worked at Nichols College for most of her career in a variety of distinct roles in both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. Newman first served as the Director of Student Activities from 1996 to 2001 and began fulfilling the role of Coordinator of First Year Professional Development Seminar during the 2003-04 school year.
In her previous role, Newman served as Assistant Director of Advising/Academic Advisor. She also served as the Academic Support Liaison to Athletics for the past nine years. Newman recently assumed the temporary role of Assistant Dean for Student Engagement during the winter of 2022. Newman also spent five years as the Editor for the Nichols College Catalog (2015-2020, 2021-2022).
Before joining Nichols, Newman was the Director of Residence Life at Curry College from 2001 to 2002. After deciding to switch her career path from student affairs to academic affairs, she spent time at Newbury College as the Director of Advising and Academic Counselor from 2004 to 2006.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Newman was chosen by Nichols Class of 2020 to be the virtual Commencement ceremony speaker. Newman has also received multiple awards during her time at Nichols, including the Rita A. Gatzke Memorial Student Government Association Appreciation Award, the Bison Pride award, the President's Award from the Nichols College Alumni Association, and “The Ledger” Yearbook Dedication Recipient in 1998 and 2002.
A native of Maine, Newman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Stonehill College and a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from Suffolk University. She currently resides in Charlton with her sons, Conor and Chase.
