Bison Close Out Non-Conference Play with Win Over Wesleyan, 7-1

DUDLEY, Mass. (4/29/2026) – The Nichols College baseball team moves its win streak to six games with a 7-1 victory over Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Baseball Field. The Bison combined early offense and a one run pitching performance to secure the victory in the last non-conference game of the year.

With the win, Nichols improves to 21-16 (9-7 CNE) on the season and moves to an 11-1 record at home. Wesleyan drops to 12-21 with the loss.

Nichols jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and timely extra-base hitting. After Jack Raymond reached and came around to score at aggressive baserunning, Charles MacElhiney delivered a two-run double down the left field line to give the Bison a quick 3-0 advantage.

Wesleyan got one run back in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Jonah Timmons, but Nichols responded immediately in the bottom half of the frame. Taking advantage of walks and defensive miscues, the Bison plated three more runs, highlighted by RBI walks from Ryan Keating and Tyler Ladouceur, along with an RBI single from MacElhiney to extend the lead to 6-1.

Nichols added an insurance run in the eighth inning, taking advantage of an error to push the final margin to 7-1.

On the mound, Nichols used a strong bullpen effort to control the game. Connor Hume started and allowed one run over three innings before Carter Taillefer added two scoreless frames. Ashton Hammond closed the game dominantly, earning the win to move to 3-0 on the season with four shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out three.

Offensively, freshman MacElhiney led the way with two hits and three RBIs, while freshman Raymond reached base four times, scored twice, and added a double. The Bison stayed disciplined at the plate, drawing eight walks in the game.

The Bison host Wentworth for a CNE doubleheader on Friday, May 1st, for the final two games of their regular season. Game one starts at 11 AM.
