PREVIEW: Track & Field Geared to Take on CNE Championship

DUDLEY, Mass. (4/24/2026) - The Nichols College men's and women's track & field teams are eyeing Conference of New England (CNE) Championship competition, competing in two days of events this weekend. Hosted by Gordon College, CNE schools will meet at the Brigham Athletic Complex starting tomorrow, April 24th and ending the following day.

The meet will kick off Friday at 2:00 PM with the men's and women's pole vault. The first day of competition will solely consist of field events, ending competition with the men's and women's 3000m steeplechase events at 5:00 PM.

For the first day, Nichols will travel Jack Crowley, Liam Wilcox, Asya Osei-Opoku, Caminea Layman, Gabrielle McKayle, Tyler Sandford, Michael Carbone, Destiny Gardner, Emma Cheffer, Adison Dawe, Colby Ambroziak, Deshawn Faulk, Braxton Rocha, Catherine Pollock, Haley Bethin, Isabella Fleury, Erin Wyndham, Cameron Murphy, Aidan Ibbitson, Gabrielle McKayle, and Jackson Shea

Opening competition with both pole vaults, the Bison are represented by Wilcox who comes off of a record-breaking performance in the event last week at Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU), notching a 3.85m finish and a new program record. Next, three athletes in Pollock, Bethin, and Wyndham will compete in the women's javelin throw; men's side represented by Murphy and Ibittson.

McKayle will compete in the women's high jump, with Rocha, Wilcox, and Shea competing on the men's side. Hammer throw will feature Gardner, Cheffer, and Dawe for the women. Dawe most recently set a program record for the hammer throw event, notching a distance of 40.29m at Connecticut College. McKayle is also the current record holder for both women's long and high jump events, looking to assert that same level of dominance on Friday.

The men will have Sandford and Carbone to finish the hammer throws. In the second to last events of the day, Osei-Opoku, Layman, McKayle, Wilcox, Faulk, and Rocha will compete in the long jump events. Crowley will finish off day one for the Bison competing in the men's 3000m steeplechase.

Starting off Saturday, the final field events of the Championship will be held before the track events. Daniel Adamuska, Brady Crogan, Wilcox, Julia Fearing, Gardner, and Wyndham will open the day with discuss events. Following the discus throw are the triple jump events, featuring Faulk, Avery Mitchem, Rocha, and Shea. Rocha has already notched several PRs and program records in the triple jump, most notably his mark of 12.78m last week at ECSU.

Hunter Schiller, Ambroziak, Adamuska, Sandford, Bethin, Cheffer, and Dawe will put a cap on the field events as they finish out in shot put. Bethin became the program record holder for women's shot put at Tufts with a distance of 10.49m.

The Bison will include a larger cast for the track events to follow. Headlining as a standout record-breaker this year is Nolan Charbonneau who will compete in the men's 4x100m relay, 110m hurdles, 400m dash, 400m hurdles, and the 4x400m relay. Charbonneau has broken the men's 110m hurdles program record on numerous occasions this season, most recently at Connecticut College with a time of 15.08. Charbonneau also holds the program record for the 4x100m relay alongside Eric Manilut, Giormani Fortes De Brito, and Blake Pattison

Layman is set to tackle the women's 4x100m relay, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, and 4x400m relay, events she has dominated over the course of the season. Layman set the program record for the 400m hurdles at ECSU with a time of 1:16.50 and broke the 4x100 relay top time alongside Kamora Helton, Summer Bruno, and McKayle with their time of 52.74.

McKayle is slated to compete in the women's 100m dash, 200m dash, 4x100m relay, and the 4x400m relay. McKayle holds the women's indoor 200m dash record with a time of 27.02 as well as the women's 4x400 relay record.
