BOSTON, Mass. (4/1/2026) – The Nichols College baseball team fell to UMass Boston, 12-1, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Monan Park.
Nichols drops to 8-9 on the season, while UMass Boston improves to 10-8.
The Beacons got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning before adding another in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Despite a solid start on the mound from
Andrew Rocca, the Bison offense struggled to find rhythm against UMass Boston starter Robert Wunsch.
Nichols broke through in the sixth inning when
Nicholas Prince tripled to right-center and later scored on an RBI fielder's choice by
Jack Raymond to cut the deficit to 3-1.
However, UMass Boston responded with a decisive six-run bottom of the sixth inning to pull away, extending their lead to 8-1 and never looked back. UMass Boston added one run in the seventh and three more in the eighth to seal the 12-1 victory.
Prince led Nichols offensively, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, while
Julian Galvan added a hit.
On the mound, Rocca took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) over five innings while striking out seven. The Nichols bullpen combined to allow nine runs over the final three innings.
The Bison return home tomorrow, April 2nd, for a non-conference matchup against Babson College. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM.
