DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College men's volleyball team suffered their first conference loss in their final home matchup of the season this afternoon, dropping in three sets to the Gulls of Endicott College at the Nichols Athletic Center.
With the loss the Bison are deadlocked at 13-13 (5-1 NEVC) while the Gulls move on to 18-3 (6-0 NEVC)
The Bison offense was led by
Adam Vincent, who recorded 11 kills on 29 attempts while hitting .241. With his performance, Vincent moved into first place for total attacks in a single season, reaching 820 on the year.
Connor Snow and
Bryce Bonville provided strong support, combining for 13 kills—eight from Snow, who hit an impressive .467, and five from Bonville. Vincent also added the Bison's lone service ace of the match. Defensively, Nichols was solid at the net, with Snow,
Evan Sachs, and
Bradyn Pomainville each tallying three block assists. Sachs continued to facilitate the offense effectively, dishing out 27 assists. On the back end,
Cade Bernardi matched a game-high with 15 digs, further cementing his place in the record books. He now stands as the program's career digs leader with 627, while also holding the single-season record with 260 digs—building on the milestones he set earlier this week against Merrimack College.
The match began with the Gulls striking first, recording two early kills before the Bison responded with a pair of their own, both coming from Vincent. The back-and-forth continued deep into the set, with each side trading points behind kills from Vincent, Snow, and Pomainville. However, Endicott was the first to create separation, scoring three key points to stretch the lead. The margin proved enough, as despite Nichols cutting the deficit to two off a service error, the Gulls closed out the set, 25–20.
Nichols opened the second set determined to bounce back, taking the first point on a Vincent kill assisted by Sachs. Endicott answered quickly with a three-point run to set the tone early. The teams battled throughout, trading points in a tightly contested stretch. Once again, the Gulls pulled away with a five-point run, seizing momentum from the Bison. Nichols made one final push, capitalizing on a Snow kill, a Gull error, and back-to-back blocks from Pomainville and Sachs, but it wasn't enough as Endicott secured the set, 25–21.
Endicott jumped out to an early lead in the third set, taking control with a 5–1 start and forcing Nichols to play from behind. The Bison responded with kills from Vincent, Bonville, and Pomainville, while Snow and Sachs combined for a key block to cut into the deficit. A pivotal run from the Gulls, highlighted by back-to-back service aces, stretched the lead and kept Nichols at bay. Nichols made a late push behind Snow and Bonville, but the early gap proved too much as Endicott closed out the set, 25–18.
The Bison return to the road for their next contest, traveling to Albany, N.Y. to take on Russell Sage College at Robinson Gymnasium. First serve is set for 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1st.
