Doherty's Seven Goals Leads Men's Lacrosse to 16-7 Conference Win over JWU

DUDLEY, Mass. (3/28/2026) – The Nichols men's lacrosse team powered past Johnson & Wales (R.I.), 16–7, on Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field, using a dominant second quarter to take control and remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Bison now stand at 6-4 (2-0 CNE) on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 1-5 (0-2 CNE).

Senior Conor Doherty led all players with a career-high seven goals, while junior Shea Ullo turned in a six-point performance with four goals and two assists, as well as five ground balls. Sophomore Jack Campbell added three points, recording two goals with one assist, and senor Jonah Libby chipped in a goal and an assist to round out the list of multi-point performers for the Bison. At the X, senior Travis Arnold was 12-of-23, with five ground balls. Nichols finished with a 47-35 advantage in shots and went 21-for-23 on clears, consistently controlling possession throughout the second half.

After a back-and-forth opening quarter that saw four lead changes, Nichols found itself trailing 4-3 at the end of the first. Johnson & Wales capitalized on early penalties, striking twice on extra-man opportunities, while Ullo and Doherty provided the goals for the Bison at 11:07, 7:35 and 3:09 of the quarter.

The Bison responded emphatically in the second quarter, beginning with an early goal from John Caserta off a feed from Shea Ullo to tie the score at 4-4. Nichols erupted for six goals over the final eight minutes of the half, with Doherty fueling the run with three goals in the frame, all coming in rapid succession, while Ullo added two of his own. Jack Campbell also found the back of the net during the stretch, helping Nichols build a commanding 10-5 lead heading into halftime.

Nichols continued to pour it on in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 3-1. Jonah Libby converted a man-up opportunity midway through the period, and Doherty struck twice more—including a last-second goal off a Libby assist—to extend the lead to 13-6.

In the fourth, the Bison maintained control despite a brief Johnson & Wales push. Campbell opened the scoring just 43 seconds into the period, and Ullo later added his fourth goal of the game. Jackson Hernandez capped the scoring with a late tally off a Joey Lachance assist to seal the 16-7 victory.

Carter Renaud (4-4) earned the win in net, making 14 saves along with a game-high four caused turnovers.

Men's lacrosse continues conference play on Wednesday, April 1st at University of Hartford (4-3, 1-0 CNE), with the opening faceoff set for 4:00 PM at Al-Marzook Field.
