MacElhiney Takes Home CNE Rookie of the Week

BEVERY, Mass. (3/16/2026) – The Nichols College baseball team came back from their spring break trip in style, earning their first conference weekly honor of the season. Freshman shortstop Charles MacElhiney was honored with the Conference of New England (CNE) Rookie of the Week on March 16th for his efforts in Virginia and South Carolina.
 
MacElhiney played in 4 games this past week, recording 14 at-bats and 6 hits for a .429 avg (.471 obp). On the 6 hits, he earned 5 RBIs and 3 runs while stealing 2 bases. In the field, he was a part of 5 double plays, 6 putouts, and 10 assists. 
 
MacElhiney's best performance of the week came in game one of the doubleheader against the University of Mary Washington, where he went 2-3 with one run, two RBIs, a walk, and a stolen base to boost the Bison to a 9-5 win against the Eagles.

In the CNE statistics standings, MacElhiney currently sits 18th in batting average (.379), 16th in hits (11), 11th in RBIs (9), and 12th in stolen bases (3). In the fielding categories, he ranks 3rd in the CNE in assists (23) and 6th in double plays (6). 
 
MacElhiney joins teammate Collin Harty (5/5/2025) as an active member of the program to win the CNE Rookie of the Week honors.
 
MacElhiney and the baseball program return to action on Thursday, March 19th at 3 PM, when they travel to Mitchell College for a non-conference game against the Mariners.
