Softball Splits for Third Time During Florida Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. (3/12/2026) – The Nichols softball team split a pair of games on Thursday, starting with a 6-3 triumph over Regis College, before a tough 19-0 loss to Swarthmore College in the closer at Legends Way Ballfields.

The Bison move to 3-5 overall on the season, with two games left to play in their Florida schedule.

Game #1: vs Regis College

The Bison used a fast start in game one to seize an early advantage over the Raiders, scoring two runs in the first inning from one hit. Freshman Sidney Hicks was the one behind the bat with a lead-off double to right-center field, before taking an extra bag on a steal. In the following at-bat, senior Ava Slavinsky reach via a walk, then took second on her own steal to put two runners in scoring position. After a sac-fly to right brought home Hicks for the first run of the game, senior Allie Silliman took first after getting hit by a pitch, then worked a double steal with Slavinsky to score her from third, giving the Bison the 2-0 edge.

The Pride squeezed across one run in the bottom of the opening frame, but surrendered another three to the Bison in their next time up. Riley Chartier kicked off the offensive outburst with a double to left-center, while Emily Iannuccilli connected for a single, then advanced to second and third as a result of a subsequent throwing error from the Regis right fielder, scoring Chartier. Then, Hicks returned for her second appearance at the plate, and drove a long-ball to the right-side corner, easily scoring Iannuccilli. But it didn't end there, as Hicks turned on the jets to round all the bases and score, both an inside the park and her first collegiate home run.

Nichols continued to target Regis' right-side of the outfield in the third inning, with freshman catcher Madison Scriber delivering an RBI triple to right, plating the sixth and final run for the Bison. Regis would respond with two runs in the fourth inning, but come up short in the long run in the eventual 6-3 final.

Senior Olivia Pedro (3-2) picked up the win through her first complete game of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits and two strikeouts.

Game #2: vs Swarthmore College

The Bison ran into a potent Swarthmore attack in the second game of the afternoon, and had a difficult time containing the Garnet right out of the gate. In the first inning, Swarthmore plated 12 runs on nine hits, while also capitalizing on three Bison errors.

Moving into the second inning, the Garnet tacked on another six runs to extend their lopsided lead to 18-0, additionally adding four more hits to the scoresheet.
Nichols eventually settled things down in the third and fourth innings defensively, but failed to make up any ground on the offensive side of the ball. Swarthmore would add one final run in the top of the fifth, before holding Nichols off the scoresheet in the bottom half for the 19-0 win.

Sophomore Molly Medor (0-3) took the loss in the circle, but senior Ally McNamee saw the bulk of the time in the circle, tossing 3.1 innings with two strikeouts.
