BEVERLY, Mass. (2/9/2026) – The Nichols men's ice hockey team sees freshman forward
Justin Massa earn the Conference of New England Rookie of the Week honors for February 9th. Massa was vital in the Bison's efforts over the past weekend in pulling off the conference sweep against Western New England University, ending the week with four goals and one assist for five points, including a hat trick in Saturday's 3-2 win.
In Friday's game at the Olympia Ice Center, Massa recorded a goal and an assist for two points on the night in Nichols' 5-2 win against the Golden Bears. The Montreal, Quebec native also won both the faceoffs he took.
In the 3-2 win at home on Saturday against WNE, Massa scored a third period hat trick, including the short-handed game-winner on an unassisted goal to propel the Bison past the Golden Bears. The last time the men's ice hockey program had a player score a hat trick was on 1/22/2022, when senior captain Curtis Carlson '22 scored three goals and an assist at Suffolk University. Massa is one of eight Conference of New England men's hockey players to record a hat trick this season.
With Massa's Rookie of the Week honor, the Nichols men's ice hockey program now sits at five weekly honors won this season, one honor away from matching last year's total of six.
The men's ice hockey team returns to the Levy Rink on Friday, February 13th at 4:40 PM, when they host No. 15 Curry College for a Conference of New England matchup.
