Women's Track & Field Competes at Scarlet Knights Open

NEW YORK, N.Y. (2/6/2026) - The Nichols College women's track & field team traveled to The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory Friday morning to compete in the Rutgers University organized Scarlet Knights Open, hosting multiple NCAA programs for indoor events.

For the invitational, the Bison had several athletes in Gabrielle McKayle, Caminea Layman, and Addison Dawe. Dawe comes off of her historic performance at the Wesleyan Indoor Invite II with a 12.43m weight throw, now a resounding first place spot for the program record.

In the women's pentathlon 800m, Layman saw a Top-5 performance of fifth with her time of 2:49.53. The effort marks the first recorded time that a Nichols College women's track & field athlete has participated in the event, marking it the single and best time for the event in the program moving forward.

Layman also placed seventh in the women's pentathlon long jump event, posting a distance of 4.57m. With her efforts, she now holds the second greatest distance in program history for the women's long jump, previously set by Rajchel Smardon (2021-2024) at the Eastern Invitational (4/22/2022).

Layman also participated in the women's high jump for the second recorded time in the program with a 1.30m, now the No. 1 record beating Leundra Marsh (2018) set at the CCC Invitational (4/29/2017). McKayle also puts herself in the women's high jump record book as the third to participate, marking 1.45m.

McKayle's time of 11.08 is now the No. 1 record for women's 60m hurdles, previously 11.62 from Rajchel Mardon (2021-2024) at the Wesleyan invitational (1/27/2024). Layman's time of 12.66 in the women's pentathlon 60m hurdles puts her in the ladder as well.

Dawe almost matched her efforts from last week's meet, setting the No. 2 spot for women's weight throw with her distance of 12.24m, previously her attempt of 11.56 at the Brown University Invitational (2/22/2025).
