Bergin Shatters 600m Run Record at Scarlet Knights Open

NEW YORK, N.Y. (2/6/2026) - The Nichols College men's track & field team traveled to The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory early morning to compete in the Scarlet Knights Open, hosted and organized by Rutgers University.

For the invitational, the Bison featured performances from Nolan Charbonneau, Patrick Bergin, Jackson Shea, Liam Wilcox, and Tyler Sandford across sprint, field, and throwing events.
Charbonneau opened the day in the men's 60m hurdles clocking a time of 9.02. Charbonneau's time marks the No. 2 top-finish in the record book, beating out the time of 9.08 set by himself at the Suffolk Relays (1/11/25). He later returned to the track in the 400m where he posted a 54.33 finish.

Bergin followed in the mid-distance events, recording a time of 1:27.57 in the men's 600m. His time is now the No. 1 spot in the record book for the 600m run, previously set by Jack Hearn (2022-2025) at the Wesleyan Indoor Relays (1/25/2025) with a time of 1:28.75.

In the field events, Shea led the Bison in the men's high jump with a clearance of 1.80m while Wilcox followed with 1.70m, both notching spots in the Top-10. Wilcox also competed in the men's pole vault, reaching a height of 3.53m.

Sanford represented Nichols in the throwing events, marking 11.74m in the men's shot put before finishing the day with an 11.77m toss in the men's weight throw. Sanford's attempt in the weight throw now takes the No. 2 spot in the record, replacing his 11.72m effort at the Wesleyan Indoor Relays (1/25/2025).
