BOSTON, Mass. (2/3/2026) - A 59-point first half and five double-figure scorers carried the Nichols men's basketball team to a 108-83 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology in conference play on Tuesday night at Tansey Gymnasium.
The Bison continue their push for the conference postseason with the win, improving to 12-9 (7-5 CNE) overall. Wentworth, with the loss, falls to 1-18 (1-11 CNE).
Headlining Nichols' busy scoresheet was
Javen Flowers-Smith with 23 points on 9-of-12 (75.0%) shooting, as well as six assists and a pair of steals.
Dominic Mello and
Olivier St. Louis also contributed with 15 points apiece, with St. Louis also leading the rebounding effort with seven on the night. The list continued with double-figure scorers
Noah Rudman and
Jason Peters, who put up 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Bison shot 40-of-71 (56.3%) from the field overall, their second highest shooting performance this season, which included 14-of-27 (51.9%) success from three-point range and 14-of-17 (82.4%) from the foul line.
The Bison quickly generated a steal that lead to a Mello jumper from inside to open the scoring, which was promptly followed by a St. Louis three pointer to put the Bison up 5-0 early. The lead continued to grow as six unanswered points fell Nichols' way, including back-to-back makes from Rudman to make it an 11-3 game less than five minutes in. As play continued through the midway point of the half, the Bison continued to contain any pushback from the Leopards, all the while tightening their offensive grip with a 10-2 run to further their lead to 16 points, with Peters knocking down consecutive triples in the process. With their lead now standing at 42-26 with 4:00 remaining, Nichols used the remaining time in the half to gain even more breathing room, outscoring Wentworth by a 17-4 margin for a 59-30 advantage at the half.
Rudman set the tone for the second half with an early dunk 10 seconds in, courtesy of a pass inside from Flowers-Smith. The two teams went on to trade baskets over the next few minutes, but the Leopards struggled to contain Nichols' relentless attack with the Bison climbing to as high as a 35- point lead, with Flowers-Smith adding in a dunk of his own. A good number of additional Bison joined in on the bombardment, as
Harrison Stanwood and
Joey McGovern each hit triples, and
Cassidy Bonsu with several points from inside the paint, sealing Nichols' 108-83 victory.
