DUDLEY, Mass. (2/23/2026) - The Nichols College men's tennis team is set to continue their 2025-26 season following a short stint last fall, competing across several matches and ending their brief play with a 1-2 record going into the break.
Last season, the Bison captured the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, highlighting a memorable 2024–25 campaign. Nichols finished the year 12-12 overall, but truly dominated within conference play, posting a perfect 9-0 ahead of their conference title. The run marked the men's program's 15th conference championship win in their history.
Now at the helm, head coach Javier Godoy Gomis continues to cultivate his role leading both the men's and women's programs after previously serving the Bison as graduate assistant. His familiarity with the culture and competitive standard of the program provides continuity entering the new season. He is joined by graduate assistant Jose Nunez, a key contributor as a player on the 2024–25 men's team, whose recent on-court experience adds a valuable player perspective to the coaching staff as Nichols looks to build on last year's success.
The team sends off seven graduates in the turnover last year, seeing the leave of Leon Zeis, Kerem Subasi, Enzo Matos Balleux, Oscar Junyent, Richard Hartmann Luzio, Caio Dieckmann, and Jose Nunez; Nunez joined Coach Godoy Gomis in the fall as a graduate assistant coach for both men's and women's tennis following his collegiate career.
With the transition from player to coach for the Bison, Nunez points out that "It's a special feeling going from player to coach. I've seen the work that's being put in every practice, and I truly believe this team has the potential to achieve great things this year."
The Bison welcomed back six returners, retaining Felipe Gonzalez, Rodolfo Hernandez, Alexander Snitko, with 2025-26 team captains Mason Harris, William Bergendahl, and Joshua Alarcon. They are matched by six additions in Joshua Zenczak, Jodha Singh, Ezra Raphael, Andrew Emmel, Nikolas Bertrams, and William Albrikes.
When asked about the incoming spring portion of the season and the new team set to hit the court, head coach Godoy Gomis shared, "We're proud of what this program accomplished last season, but our focus now is on building the next chapter. We graduated a special group of leaders, and that opens the door for new voices and new energy to step forward. Our returners understand the standard, and our newcomers have brought great competitiveness and hunger to the team. This group has been working with purpose, and we're excited to see how we grow together this spring. The goal remains the same compete at a championship level every time we step on the court as well as keep our successful mindset and spirit."
So far this season, the team produced a 7-0 sweep against Salve Regina University (9/17/2025) to open up 2025-2026 play. Giving opportunity to some of the new athletes as well as key returners, they made their debut strong keeping all singles courts to two sets, with straight-set victories produced by Bertrams, Snitko, and Alarcon.
Men's Tennis is set to make their return to form in the spring later this week, traveling to Vassar College to compete in their first game this half of the season. Hosted at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center, the Bison will ready their rackets for a 10:00 AM start.
