Four Records Fall for Women’s Track & Field at Springfield and Brown

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (2/20/2026), PROVIDENCE, R.I. (2/21/2026) - The Nichols College women's track & field team turned in an eventful weekend, competing at the Springfield Triangle Classic hosted by Springfield College on Friday before continuing action at the Brown Invitational at Brown University on Saturday.

The Bison sent two athletes for the women's side to Springfield College, having Gabrielle McKayle and Caminea Layman represent Nichols to compete in the pentathlon. The Brown Invitational saw a wider range of representatives competing across multiple events on the day.

Comprehensively, Nichols' produced a team score of 13 points on the day for the Springfield Triangle Classic. Three records were shattered in the meet, with a fourth nearly broken but tied evenly. McKayle's attempt in the long jump portion of the pentathlon boasted a distance of 4.69m, tying the current No. 1 record of Rajchel Smardon (2021-2025) set at the CCC Championship (4/25/2025). Despite the tie, McKayles effort in the high jump event prior marked a 1.50m finish, now the No.1 record for the event replacing 1.37m from Leundra Marsh (2017) at the CCC Invitational (4/29/2017). Layman's posted distance of 1.38m consequently becomes the No. 2 placement in the record book. McKayle didn't stop with her initial record break, securing program bests for the 60m hurdles (10.52) and and her overall score for the pentathlon (2425). The time for 60m hurdles knocks off the former top time of 11.62 from Rajchel Smardon at the Wesleyan Invitational (1/27/2024), and her pentathlon score replaces Layman's mark of 1904 at the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Invite.

Adison Dawe capped off the record-breaking weekend with her weight throw at the Brown Invitational, her fourth record break in a row this season for the event alone. Her distance of 13.89m is a resounding rise in the record book, a meter and change over her mark last week at the Tufts Cupid Challenge of 12.50m, and now the No. 1 in the program.
