DUDLEY, Mass. (2/14/2026) – With their backs against the wall late in the game, the Nichols College men's lacrosse team stunned non-conference opponent, Lasell University with five unanswered goals, earning themselves a 12-10 comeback win in the program's 2026 home opener on Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field.
Nichols opens the new season at 1-0 with the win, while Lasell starts out at 0-1. The win is also Nichols' first against the Lasers since March 24
th, 2004.
Sophomore
Kane Williams opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, with classmate
Jack Campbell adding the helper to put the Bison up 1-0. Seniors
Conor Doherty and
Jonah Libby soon followed with goals of their own, both unassisted and 3:40 apart to make it a 3-0 contest, before Libby dished out a pass to find
Tyler Olivo in front for their fourth goal of the game with 3:07 left.
Despite Lasell adding a goal before the end of the first quarter, Williams returned for seconds just over the midway point of the second period as he was found wide open to the left of the Lasell cage off a pass from
John Caserta, restoring Nichols' lead to four goals at 5-1. In response, Lasell managed to strike twice more unassisted prior to the end of the half, putting Nichols on notice with a weakened 5-3 lead at the break.
Lasell regrouped and fired back with four of the next five goals scored in the third quarter, in turn giving them their first lead of the afternoon, 7-6, with Nichols' lone tally going to Caserta, unassisted. In an attempt to slow down the opponent, Williams set up Campbell for the equalizer to tie the score at 7-all with 2:17 to play, which would hold until the beginning of the fourth quarter.
The Bison faced a seemingly daunting task in the final quarter, with the Lasers firing off three straight goals to put themselves in control, 10-7. However, un-fazed by the challenge, the Bison found another gear with under five minutes to play, and shocked Lasell with a 5-0 run to erase the three-goal deficit, giving them the eventual 12-10 victory. Doherty and Williams accounted for two of the strikes, whiles
Travis Arnold,
Joey LaChance and
Shea Ullo provided the rest, with LaChance's being the game winner.
In goal, senior
Carter Renaud (1-0) made six saves through a full 60 minutes played. Ullo led the day with a game-high four caused turnovers, while Arnold scooped 14 ground balls with 17 wins at the faceoff X. In total, Nichols finished with a 17-9 edge in faceoffs, and a 25-16 advantage in shots on goal.
Men's lacrosse will be at Coast Guard (0-1) for their first road test of the young season, with game start set for Noon at Cadet Memorial Field.
