Field Hockey Drops 3-1 Decision to Roger Williams

DUDLEY, Mass. (10/3/2026) - The Nichols College field hockey team battled back in the second half, but came up short against conference opponent Roger Williams University, 3-1, in their Play 4 The Cure game at Michael J. Vendetti Field.

Nichols slides to 4-6 (2-2 CNE) with the setback, while Roger Williams improves to 7-2 (2-1 CNE) with the win.

The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening quarter, scoring twice in a span of less than two minutes. Libby Corsetti opened the scoring on a penalty stroke at 1:32 before assisting Brodie Loveland on Roger Williams' second goal at the 3:10 mark. Nichols settled in defensively during the second quarter, keeping Roger Williams off the scoreboard while goalkeeper Fallyn Belisle made six saves in the frame, maintaining the 2-0 difference at halftime.

Nichols generated its best offensive stretch of the afternoon in the third quarter, recording all five of its shots in the period and earning three penalty corners. The pressure paid off in the 43rd minute when Evelyn Linehan finished a feed from Emma Bianculli to cut the deficit to 2-1, marking Linehan's third goal of the season. However, Roger Williams answered just over two minutes later as Reese Jefferson scored at 44:38 to restore the Hawks' two-goal advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bison continued to battle in the final 15 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the cage as Roger Williams held on for the 3-1 victory.

Belisle finished with 15 saves for the Bison, while Katherine Hearn and Brooke Morin each recorded a defensive save. Linehan scored Nichols' lone goal, with Bianculli supplying the assist. The Bison finished with six shots and three penalty corners, while Roger Williams recorded 29 shots and seven corners.

Field hockey will have several days off before its next matchup at Dean College (7-3, 3-1 CNE) on Thursday, October 8th, with a start time of 3:30 PM at Grant Field.
