Men's Soccer Loses Close Fight to Hartford, 1-0

DUDLEY, Mass. (10/14/2026) - The Nichols College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the University of Hartford in a Conference of New England match up Wednesday night at Vendetti Field.

With the result, Nichols moves to 7-6-0 overall and 3-3-0 in CNE play, while Hartford improves to 5-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 in conference action.

Hartford scored the game's lone goal in the 23rd minute when Jared Noble converted a pass from Jaiden Daigle at 22:54 to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. In the 44th minute, Alexandro Montreuil dribbled past the Hawks' goalkeeper and fired a shot on goal, but a Hartford defender cleared it off the line to deny the Bison. Nichols' goalkeeper Anthony Grguric made five saves in the first half to keep the Bison within striking distance heading into the break.

Nichols looked to find an equalizer in the second half, increasing its offensive pressure with eight shots after halftime. Avery Morse, Shea Ullo, Zach O'Meara and Brody Figiela each recorded attempts on goal, but Hartford goalkeeper Cristian Vitti turned aside every Nichols shot as they continued to push for the equalizer. The Bison generated seven shots and three corners late in the contest but were not able to capitalize on them. The game ended with a final score of 1-0.

Nichols finished with 10 shots, including six on goal, and five corner kicks. Hartford recorded 15 shots, nine on target, and five corner kicks. Grguric finished with eight saves for the Bison, while Vitti made five stops for Hartford.

Nichols returns to action on Saturday, October 17th, when the Bison face Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7 PM on Vendetti Field. This game will mark the men's soccer program's Breast Cancer Awareness game.
