Burdier Posts Double-Double in Close Loss at Suffolk, 76-68

DUDLEY, Mass. (1/20/2026) - The Nichols College women's basketball team traveled to Smith Court at Suffolk University to compete in the first of a double-header night with the men's basketball team. After a tough conference match-up battle, the Bison unfortunately fell to the Rams, 68-76.

With the loss, Nichols falls to 9-9 in overall record of the season, with a 5-4 record against Conference of New England opponents. The Rams improved to their 9-8 record, 3-5 in the CNE.

Alyvia Smith and Isabella Lopez-Marin both shared the title of leader in the scoring column, producing 13 points each, the performance marking Lopez-Marin's career-high as she also shot a near-flawless 6-7 from the field. Closely following Smith and Lopez-Marin for scoring was Kya Burdier, dropping 11 points and leading the rebounding statistics with 13 boards, a career record and her first double-double. Angie Coletti and Jaelize Rivera both contributed the most in assists with three a piece, with Coletti's two steals leading that column.

Nichols struggled offensively in the first half, shooting 11-29 as a team (37.9%). The Rams saw two double-digit scorers in the first half alone who were key contributors in their establishment of a lead going into the second half. Tianna Hernandez saw an efficient first with seven points, shooting 3-5 from the field, accompanied by six points and five rebounds from Adriana Romano. Despite some highlighted individual performances, the Rams left the court up on the Bison, 42-31.

In the second half, Lopez-Marin saw her surge and put up all of 13 points on the night, with Coletti and Burdier racking in double-digit rebound figures. Following a jumper from Lopez-Marin at 5:25 in the fourth quarter, the Bison were close to closing out the Rams' lead at just a four-point deficit. Despite this fact, a later rally and multiple shots at the charity stripe solidified the Rams' win over the Bison, 76-68.

The Bison will return home at the Nichols Athletics Center on Saturday, January 24th to face conference opponent University of New England. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
