CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (9/6/2025) - The Nichols College football program fell to the MIT Engineers, 46-13 in the team's 2025 season opener Saturday afternoon at Henry G. Steinbrenner '27 Stadium.
The Bison start off the new campaign at 0-1, while MIT jumps to 1-0 overall.
Sophomore quarterback
Will Migliaccio led Nichols' passing attack, throwing for 80 yards and one touchdown, along with completing 6-of-12 passes (50.0%). Junior newcomer
Ethan LaGuardia also pitched in offensively, matching Migliaccio's 80 passing yards with 4-of-13 (30.8%) completions. Graduate student wide receiver
Jack Morvan was the able to find the end zone for the Bison, finishing the day with a pair of receptions for a team-best 59 receiving yards, while freshman running back
Evan Toth rushed for 59 yards on 16 attempts in his collegiate debut.
Defensively, six Bison posted a team-high six tackles, with senior Alec Calverly and freshman
Michael Gurley each chalking-up a team-best six solo tackles apiece.
Nichols struck first at the 10:44 mark of the opening quarter, as Migliaccio connected with Morvan froms 61 yards out to give them the 6-0 lead, before second-year kicker
Nick Foynes converted for the extra point to make it 7-0. However, the momentum would shift in favor of MIT throughout the remainder of the first half of play, with the Engineers finding the end zone four times alongside a successful field goal from 18-yards out to give the hosts a 30-7 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the MIT scoring would slow down slightly, with the team adding one more touchdown in the third quarter to bring the action to 37-7. However, the Bison countered in the final quarter with a six-play drive to bring them to within one yard of the goal line, where LaGuardia rushed in his first Bison touchdown to cut the lead to 39-13 with 4:45 left to play.
MIT would score once more on the following drive, completing their 46-13 triumph.
The Bison will face the United States Merchant Marine Academy (1-0) in their 2025 Home Opener on Saturday, September 13
th. Kickoff against the Mariners is set for 1:00 PM at Vendetti Field, with tickets available both
online and at the entry gate.
