DUDLEY, MASS. – The Nichols College women's volleyball team fell to Framingham State University, 3-0 (21-25, 21-25, 19-25), during non-conference action Thursday night.
The loss drops the Bison to 3-5 on the season, while the Rams improve to 3-2.
First-year Alyssa Morse led the Nichols attack with 10 kills, while senior Mairead Frost added five. Graduate student Ruby St. Onge contributed three key service aces and 13 assists to pace the offense, and junior Elizabeth Mullen anchored the defense with a team-high 22 digs.
Both teams struggled to find separation early in the opening set as the Rams and Bison traded points. Framingham eventually built a comfortable 15–9 lead, but Nichols answered with a four point run sparked by a Frost kill off a set from St. Onge. Offensive pressure from Gabrielle McKayle and Kya Burdier pulled the Bison within 17–14, but the Rams halted the rally and closed out the first set, 25–21.
Framingham carried its momentum into the second set, jumping out to a six-point lead. The Rams appeared ready to begin the third set, holding an 11-point advantage late, but the Bison stormed back with an 8–1 surge fueled with all three of St. Onge's service aces. Still, the comeback fell short, as Framingham once again sealed the set 25–21. The Rams wrapped up the match with a decisive 25–19 win in the third, completing the 3–0 sweep.
The Bison return to action on Saturday, September 13, when they travel to the Massachusetts Maritime Tri-Match. Nichols will face host Massachusetts Maritime Academy (1–5) at 11:00 a.m. before squaring off against the University of Southern Maine (1–6) at 1:00 p.m.
