DUDLEY, Mass. (8/30/2025) - The Nichols College field hockey program opened the 2025 season with a 5-2 loss to Dean College on Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field.
The Bison kick off the new campaign at 0-1, while the Bulldogs improve to 1-0 overall.
Dean kicked things off with back-to-back strikes in the first quarter at the 12:49 and 20:38 marks, respectively. The Bison responded with a goal from junior forward
Sofia Calabro to wrap up the first quarter, which came off an assist by freshman
Lily Gibson, which was her first collegiate point.
Calabro returned for her second goal of the afternoon just 2:08 into the second half of play, this time unassisted to knot the score up at 2-2. However, Dean would score a go-ahead goal in the 40
th minute of the third quarter, before adding two more in the final period to round out the 5-2 decision.

Jessa Altemose played all 60 minutes in her collegiate debut, recording eight saves against the Bulldogs.
The Bison will face their first road test of the season on Wednesday, September 3
rd with a road trip to Fitchburg State University. Game start is set for 4:00 PM at Elliot Field.
