DUDLEY, Mass. (8/25/2025) - The 2025 season will be about looking to the future for the Nichols College field hockey program, as they return to action this fall with a number of notable returning student-athletes, an eight-player recruiting class, and a new head coach in Kelsey Ramsay.
The Bison, who went 5-14 (1-4 CNE), will kick start their new campaign with their 1:00 PM home opener on Saturday, August 30th against non-conference opponent Dean College, and will open their conference competition on Saturday, September 13th against Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island.
"I am excited by the potential and growth this group has shown over the course of our preseason," said coach Ramsey. "We plan to continue this momentum as we start our regular season."
Highlighting the list of Bison returners is senior midfielder
Merle Steinau (Essen, Germany), who posted a career-high 11 points (4G, 3A) in 11 games played, which earned her All-CNE Second Team recognition upon the completion of the 2024 season. The Bison also have two of their top offensive threats returning to action this fall; junior
Sofia Calabro, who led the team in points (18) with six goals and six assists, as well as senior
Kaelyn Casper who logged 13 points (5G, 3A), with both appearing in all 19 games.
Behind the bench, Kelsey Ramsay makes her head coaching debut with the 2025 Bison, making her the 14
th head coach in program history. Prior to Nichols, Ramsay spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Wheaton College, where she coached one NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) First Team selection, one NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honoree, and one Second Team All-Conference member, as well as 11 total student-athletes named NFHCA Scholars of Distinction, 27 members on the NFHCA National Academic Squad, and 21 NEWMAC Academic All-Conference members. She also brings additional experience as a coach of the New England Stars Field Hockey Club, and also holds her Strength & Conditioning Certification from NSCA (CSCS).
She will be joined on the staff by returning assistant coaches
