Nichols Alums Julia Carroll, Austin Paul Elevated to Athletic Administration

DUDLEY, Mass. (7/24/2025) – Nichols College Interim Director of Athletics Kristan Mallet on Thursday afternoon announced a pair of promotions within the administrative team, naming alumni Julia Carroll '23, MBA '25 and Austin Paul '23, MBA '24 to new roles within the Nichols College Division of Athletics.

Both former student athletes at Nichols, Carroll will be elevated and assume the title of Assistant Athletic Director for Finance and Compliance, while Paul takes on a full-time role as Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment Operations.

"It's incredibly rewarding to welcome two of our former student-athletes and graduate assistants as colleagues in the Division of Athletics," said Mallet. "Their deep understanding of our culture, commitment to excellence, and passion for this campus make them valuable additions to our team. Watching them grow as students and now seeing them step into leadership roles is what this work is all about."

A native of Albert Bridge, Nova Scotia, Canada, Carroll recently finished her second year as the Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant in 2024-25, where she served as the primary sport contact for the women's soccer, men's soccer, women's tennis, men's tennis, and softball programs. Amongst other duties, Carroll also assisted the communications team with the scheduling and coordination of student workers on gameday, and the social media coverage of all 24 varsity athletic programs.

Prior to her time with athletic communications, Carroll was a four-year letter winner for the Nichols women's ice hockey program, where she played in 29 career games as a goaltender. Additionally, she was a two-year member of the women's lacrosse program, served as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, was a member of the Nichols Senior Advisory Council, an admissions ambassador, and a Teaching Assistant in the PDS program. Carroll earned her BSBA with a concentration in Sport Management in May of 2023, before returning to claim her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in May 2025 while completing her graduate assistantship.

"I'm elated to continue to serve Nichols College and continue to work alongside such a dedicated and passionate group of student athletes and staff," said Carroll. "Being a double Bison holds a special place in my heart, and I'm proud to continue to represent the black and green. Thank you to Kristan Mallet, the senior leadership team, and the entire division for entrusting me with this new position. I can't wait to hit the ground running and welcome our Bison back home to The Hill this fall."
Julia will oversee the finances of the division, as well as supervise NCAA compliance, and SAAC for Nichols College student athletes.

Paul, a native of Middleton, Massachusetts, has also been involved within athletics for the past several years, recently wrapping up his second year as the Game Operations Assistant and Assistant to the Equipment Room in 2024-25. Throughout that time, he served as a secondary point of contact for all home contests, and worked closely with the football, men's lacrosse, and men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs.

Paul previously spent four years competing for the Nichols track and field and rugby (club) programs, earning himself three rounds of track and field Academic All-Conference honors along the way. As a five-year member of the club rugby program, including three as a team captain, Paul was involved in two undefeated seasons in 2023 and 2024, as well as a NERFU Challenge Cup Championship and a National Colligate Rugby Northeast Championship. He was also a three-time Scholastic All-American and graduated in 2023 with a BSBA in Sport Management before earning his MBA in May 2024 at Nichols.

"I'm honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to be an integral part of the Athletic Department at my alma mater," said Paul. "Advancing in my career as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Equipment Operations is an incredible milestone. This moment means the world to me—not only as a chance to give back to the place that helped me grow, but also to support the next generation of athletes with the same pride and purpose that inspired me as a student. I want to thank Kristan Mallet, Jack Hayes, and Damir Pesa for their support and guidance in helping me take on this role. I'm excited for the future and look forward to giving back to Nichols in every way I can."

Austin will serve as the primary contact for all equipment operations for the Bison.

Both Carroll and Paul assumed their new roles on July 14th 2025, and continue to serve as valuable pieces to the Nichols College Division of Athletics.
