ANNAPOLIS, Md. (5/9/2025) – The Nichols College men's tennis team saw its 2025 NCAA Tournament run cut short on Friday with a 4-0 first round loss to No. 68 Allegheny College inside the Brigade Sport Complex at the United States Naval Academy.
The Bison, who claimed the 2025 Conference of New England title this spring, finish out the year with a 12-12 (9-0 CNE) overall record.
It was a back-and-forth battle in doubles play on all courts until the top flight of
Caio Dieckmann and
Richard Hartmann Luzio broke through with a 6-1 win, giving the Bison the upper hand. However, the Gators played the upset game on the remaining two courts, stealing the doubles point with back-to-back 7-5 wins to go ahead 1-0 in the match.
The Gators carried their doubles momentum into singles play, claiming wins at courts one and two by respective scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-4 over Nichols' Hartmann Luzio and
Jose Nunez. Then, with a 3-0 lead in hand, the Gators completed the 4-0 win with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles, which featured Nichols senior
Kerem Subasi.
The Bison had three singles matches left unfinished upon the completion of the match, with
Leon Zeis entering a decisive third set at No. 3 singles following a 6-3 win in his respective second set.
Enzo Matos Balleux was also playing the early stages of a third set (6-3, 1-6, 1-0), while Dieckman was knotted up at 3-3 in the second set of No. 6 singles after losing 6-2 in the first.
