EAST BOSTON, Mass. (4/6/2025) – The Nichols College Baseball earned a pair of Sunday afternoon wins against Conference of New England (CNE) opponent Suffolk University from East Boston Memorial Park. The Bison earned a 2-1 win before a 7-1 win in game two.
Senior
Karl Miller finished the day going 3-7 with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore
Anthony Hackert added two RBI as well.
Senior
Andrew Croteau etched his name in Baseball program history, as he played in 156
th career game, passing former teammate Kyle Bouchard '20, '22, who held the record at 155 games played.
Game One: Nichols 2 Suffolk 1
In a quick moving game, the Bison opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman
Ryan Keating singled to center field and then advanced to second on a sac bunt from Miller. Junior
Liam Flynn singled to right field, scoring Keating for a 1-0 Bison lead.
Nichols held a 1-0 lead, until the Rams answered back with a single up the middle, to level the score at 1-1. The Bison continued to add pressure and found the winning run in the top of the ninth inning. A single from sophomore
Adam Pivacek. Junior
Julian Galvan lined a single into left field and Pivacek scored on an error by the left fielder, to push the Bison ahead, 2-1.
In the bottom of the ninth, senior
Tyler Moniz-Witten (2-0) faced three batters, and after the first batter reached on an error, a 1-2-3 inning wrapped up the win for the Bison.
Senior
John Steed earned the start for the Bison, throwing 6.2 innings, while allowing one run, on five hits and fanning seven Rams. Moniz-Witten entered in relief, throwing 2.1 innings to secure the win, while allowing one hit and striking out one.
Game Two: Nichols 7 Suffolk 1
The Bison offense opened the scoring in the top half of the first inning. Jerome walked to open the game, before stealing second base. Miller then hit an inside the park home run scoring two and taking a 2-0 lead.
Nichols extended their lead in the third inning, with a single from Keating and then Miller walked to out runners on first and second. A Flynn single loaded the bases and then Pivacek hit a sac-fly to center field, scoring Keating, Nichols led 3-0 after the top of the third.
Suffolk plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning, cutting into the lead, 3-1. The Bison extended their lead to 6-1 one with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Hackert doubled to left field, scoring both freshman
Collin Harty and Galvan. Hackert then stole home, making it 6-1 Bison after six innings.
One more run from the Bison, coming off the bat of Croteau in the ninth inning, made it 7-1 Bison.
Sophomore
Allen Hinckley (1-1) threw 7.2 innings, while allowing four hits and striking out four batters. Senior
Salvatore D'Anna saw action in relief, throwing 1.1 innings, while allowing one hit and striking out one batter.
Nichols (11-10, 3-4 CNE) continues Conference play, when they welcome Western New England to the Nichols Baseball Field on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
