Bison Bounce Back With 11-8 Win at Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. (4/16/2025) – The Nichols College women's lacrosse team bounced back with a win on Wednesday afternoon, defeating non-conference Colby-Sawyer College, 11-8 on the road at Sally Shaw Veitch Track & Field.

The Bison are now 10-3-1 (3-3-1 CNE), while the Chargers drop to 8-6 (5-4 GNAC).

Senior Hadley Houghton tallied a game-high seven points for the Bison, scoring five goals with a pair of assists, along with eight ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and four draw controls. For Houghton, her seven caused turnovers also helped her surpass 100 in her collegiate career. Senior McKenzie Muir notched five points herself, and also controlled a team-high six draws, while freshman Angalisa Caceda pitched in defensively with seven caused turnovers, a season-high for the first-year defender.

In net, junior Briar Slattery (10-3-1) stopped seven shots to backstop the victory.

The Bison never trailed in the game, as Houghton netted two of her five goals in the first quarter alone to help the Bison to a 3-2 lead after one. She then added her third of the contest just over a minute and a half into the second quarter, before adding an assist to Muir's first goal at 12:51. Following a pair of Colby-Sawyer strikes, Muir returned for her second goal of the period with 5:22 remaining in the half, before Ali Vozzo scored unassisted in the waning seconds to send the Bison to the intermission leading 7-4.

The Chargers came out firing from the break, potting back-to-back goals to cut the deficit down to one, 7-6. However, the Bison countered with a man-up goal from Muir off a pass from Emma Patton, putting Nichols back ahead by two, 8-6.

Houghton and Muir continued their offensive onslaught in the fourth, combining for three more goals to pace the Bison to their 11-8 final score.

Its back to conference play this Saturday, April 19th against Suffolk University (7-7, 3-3 CNE) for the women's lacrosse program's senior day. The ceremony will be held prior to game start, which is slated for 3:00 PM at Vendetti Field.
