Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Bison Earn Third Straight Sweep Against SUNY Potsdam, 3-0

DUDLEY, Mass. (3/6/2025) – The Nichols College men's volleyball team earned its third consecutive sweep on Thursday evening, blanking conference opponent SUNY Potsdam, 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-14) at the Nichols Athletic Center.

The win is also the fourth in the last five for the Bison, who improve to 10-11 (2-0 NEVC) overall. With the loss, the Bears drop to 6-7 (0-1 NEVC).

Jack Normandin paced the Bison with 15 kills on .481 hitting, with five digs and three service aces. Tanner Soracco matched eight kills with eight digs, while Chandler Olson topped the passing game with 23 assists. Overall, the Bison combined for a .245 hitting percentage, while holding a 40-23 edge in kills.

The Bison didn't gain any momentum in the opening set until the tail end, when Normandin followed his own kill with a service ace to put Nichols ahead, 19-17. The host lead then grew slightly to 22-19 following a trio of Potsdam errors, but the Bears recovered twice to tie the score at 22-22, as well as 24-24 to force a tiebreak. Nichols took care of the rest, with Knapp combining his own kill and service ace combo to win the frame, 26-24.

Potsdam jumped out to an early 11-9 lead in the second set, but the Bison strung together back-to-back points to knot the score at 11-11, both on Normandin kills. After a brief stretch of alternating play, gained control of the set with six unanswered points, putting them in front 21-16. Not long after, a Conor McCabe kill brought the action to set point, before a bad set by the Bears gave the Bison a 25-19 win, and a 2-0 match lead.

The Bison defense stepped up in the final frame, holding Potsdam to a .013 hitting percentage. However, the attack was also present, as the Bison opened the frame with a commanding 13-2 lead behind kills from Normandin, Soracco, McCabe and Connor Snow, as well as six more Potsdam errors in that span. Nichols' lead grew to as many as 12 points down the stretch as Evan Sachs fired off three straight aces to make it 22-10, while Reece Baker secured the sweep shortly thereafter with his own service ace, finalizing the 25-14 final in the third.

The Bison will pause for Spring Break, before returning to action on Saturday, March 15th for the Bard College Tri-Match. Nichols opens with a 5:00 PM start against conference host Bard (), before finishing the evening against Regis College (10-10, 1-1 NEVC) at 7:00 PM.
